Lesson 8.2 — Fake apps and paid upgrades
AI for Dummies · Module 8: Keeping private things private · About 15 min · Phone or computer
Goal: avoid fake AI apps and know if paying is worth it.
What you'll learn
- Spot fake AI apps
- Decide about paid plans
Step 1 · Fake apps
- Check the maker's name (see 2.1)
- Be wary of "ChatGPT Pro AI Chat 2026" style names
- Ignore ads promising "AI that makes you money"
Step 2 · Is paying worth it?
For everyday use, free is usually enough. Pay only if you hit limits often. Subscribe in the official app or website, and remember to cancel if you stop using it.
Try it now
Open your phone's app list. Check any AI apps are from the real makers, and check your subscriptions (Settings → your name → Subscriptions on iPhone; Play Store → Payments & subscriptions on Android).
Safety note
Stay safe: "AI trading bots" that promise income are a common scam. Check ASIC's investor alert list on moneysmart.gov.au.
