Lesson 7.1 — Fake voices and videos

AI for Dummies · Module 7: Scams and fakes · About 20 min · Phone or computer

Goal: know that voices and faces can be faked, and set a family code word.

What you'll learn

Step 1 · How the scam works

Scammers can copy a voice from a short video online. You get a call: "Mum, I've been in an accident, I need money now, don't tell Dad." It sounds exactly like them. Fake videos of celebrities "recommending" investments are also common.

Step 2 · Your defence: a code word

Agree on a family code word in person. If anyone calls asking for money in an emergency, ask for the word. No word, no money.

Step 3 · Other checks

Try it now

Choose a code word with your family this week (not a pet's name or anything on social media).

Safety note

Stay safe: Be careful what you post: public videos of your voice can be used to copy it.
